Footsteps Of The Ancients

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe - The earth, a silent witness, bears witness to the unfolding of legends and history, leaving behind the footprints of ages imprinted upon the very soil. These ancient worlds collide, weaving historical contexts that bring hope and new beginnings to humanity.

For centuries, the Zimbabwean wilderness parks have been the cherished home of some of the rarest species on the planet. However, the protective veil that has long provided sanctuary to these precious creatures and resources is now under severe threat.

Anchored by the magnificent House Of Chinhara hotels, set to be developed within the National Park of the UNESCO world heritage site of Victoria Falls, the RareEARTH Foundation is on a mission to safeguard the thousands of acres of wilderness. Our goal is to establish an internationally acclaimed Wilderness Sanctuary by forging partnerships with local communities, offering education, skills, and employment to hundreds of male and female rangers.

The RareEARTH Foundation is committed to creating and constructing permanent outposts and tent-based field units, providing patrol vehicles, ensuring a steady supply of fuel, and vehicle maintenance. Aerial surveillance, tracker dogs, and all the essential tools required to shield this breathtaking environment from poachers, climate change, and industrial-related environmental destruction for generations to come will be provided. To provide a comprehensive view of this noble endeavor, an Opus box set and film have been produced. The Opus, aptly titled "One Dream One Vision," chronicles the ancient history and legacy of Zimbabwe and the majestic cultural heritage of this once-famed kingdom.

Why It Matters for Elephants:

"African elephant populations have plummeted from an estimated 12 million a century ago to just around 400,000 today. Recent years have witnessed the loss of at least 20,000 elephants in Africa annually due to poaching for their tusks. African forest elephants have been especially hard-hit, experiencing a 62% decline between 2002-2011 and losing 30% of their geographical range. African savanna elephants have seen a 30% decline between 2007-2014. This alarming decline has continued and even accelerated, with cumulative losses of up to 90% in certain landscapes between 2011 and 2015. The most significant threat to African elephants today is wildlife crime, primarily poaching for the illegal ivory trade. The greatest threat to Asian elephants is habitat loss, resulting in human-elephant conflict. WWF has advocated for ending commercial elephant ivory sales in major markets, including the US, China, Thailand, and Hong Kong, as the most effective solution to combat this illegal ivory trade." - WWF

Why It Matters for Lions:

"Affected by habitat loss and fragmentation, illegal wildlife trade, and human-wildlife conflict, lions, powerful and majestic, the kings of the beasts, have no natural predators. Unbelievably, African lion numbers have plunged by over 40% in the last three generations, primarily due to loss of living space and conflicts with humans. Lions are the most sociable of all big cats, living in groups known as prides, typically comprising related females and their cubs. Dominant males, characterized by their impressive manes, symbolizing virility, battle to secure breeding rights. An alarming three-quarters of African lion populations are in decline, with only around 20,000 remaining in the wild, officially classified as 'vulnerable' by WWF."

Why It Matters for Rhinos

"Rhinos are once again battling for their survival. In the last century, they were hunted and poached to the brink of extinction. A global conservation campaign offered a lifeline, but their future is once more in peril. Backed by organized criminal networks, poachers employ 21st-century weapons and technology to satisfy the growing demand for rhino horn, primarily in Vietnam." - WWF
